Question

How do I disable compression of the Evidence Processor debug logs in the "Jobs" folder?

Note: Disabling debug log compression can result in very large logs and the possibility of depleting disk space.  Please exercise caution in disabling log compression.

Answer

  1. On the machine with the Processing Engine, open REGEDIT
  2. Navigate to "HKLM\SOFTWARE\AccessData\Products\Evidence Processing Engine\<version>"
  3. Create a DWORD value called "CompressLogs" and set its value to 0

Overview

The EP debug logs are typically compressed with 7zip at the end of processing.  If something causes the Processing Engine processes to die, though, it is possible for this compression to fail and the logs will remain empty.  Disabling log compression may be necessary is very problematic processing issues to ensure the debug logs remain intact.
