Question

Can AccessData software be run in a virtual environment or virtual machine?

Answer

Yes, however there are some things to keep in mind:

  • AccessData software running on virtual machines is often found to take about a 20% performance hit compared to running on a physical machine with the same specifications due to the overhead of virtualization.
  • As with physical machines with faulty hardware, drivers, etc., AccessData cannot take responsibility for problems stemming from issues with the virtualization framework itself.

As such, we strongly encourages the use of physical hardware platforms in any implementation of the AccessData software. AccessData reserves the right, during the troubleshooting of a support issue, to withdraw support on a specific issue if it is found to be induced by virtualization.

Is there any push to support VM environments? We are a small company and most of our servers are virtual and we have not run into performance issues and want to know if you plan on certifying AccessData to run in a virtual environment? I already run it in VM for our test environment and have had no issues.
