WCF Services Install Fails

Problem

WCF Services appears to install successfully, but does not function correctly and/or all the services are removed by the installer.  The installer reports that it completed successfully and no errors appear, but the Services have been rolled back or removed.

Another symptom of this problem is seeing the following error message when trying to open Summation: Server error in '/ADG.Map.Web' Application. No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

Server error in ADG.MAP.Web No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it

Resolution

  1. Open Services and check to see if all the expected Summation related services are listed.
  2. Uninstall AppFabric.
  3. Reinstall WCF. As part of its prerequisites installer, it will install the correct version of AppFabric.

(Note: In some instances, AppFabric may fail to install.  This article (linked here) with reference to the PSModulePath was useful in resolving an AppFabric re-install issue.)

Cause

It is likely that AppFabric is either out of date, installed incorrectly, or has become corrupt.  A log file "C:\Program Files\AccessData\psout.txt" may be present when this issue occurs.  This log file may contain errors similar to those below.
