How do I enable Named Pipes Protocol for MS SQL?

To enable Named Pipes protocol:

  1. From the Programs menu, launch the SQL Server Configuration Manager.
  2. Expand the SQL Server Network Configuration and select Protocols for MSSQLSERVER.

Note: If you are using a named instance, the instance’s name will be visible in place of “MSSQLSERVER”.

  1. Right-click the Named Pipes protocol and select Enable.
  2. Click SQL Server Services, right-click the appropriate SQL Server service, and select Restart to cycle the SQL instance.

Named Pipes must be enabled for AD products to establish a connection to the SQL server for several functions including creating a case.
